{"id":6757,"date":"2022-01-06T12:35:00","date_gmt":"2022-01-06T12:35:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.star-gazing.co.uk\/WebPage\/?p=6757"},"modified":"2022-01-06T14:14:55","modified_gmt":"2022-01-06T14:14:55","slug":"a-productive-evening-eventually","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.star-gazing.co.uk\/WebPage\/a-productive-evening-eventually\/","title":{"rendered":"A Productive Evening (Eventually)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last night was a very cold but a really nice clear night.<br \/>\nAre we really closer to The Sun this time of the year?<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, I was determined to see if I could catch up with The Webb Space Telescope again and catch a couple of comets.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the ASIAIR Plus preforming wonderfully all this time, I had real technical issues.<\/p>\n<p>One problem I have had for a while with using the Android Emulator on my PC is that location always defaults to Washington in the US.<br \/>\nSo if I wanted to point the scope to an object in the east, it told me it was below the horizon.<br \/>\nI could even take an image and then click on the screen to re-centre on that point, something I&#8217;ve done loads of times.<br \/>\nThat also told me it was below the horizon.<br \/>\n(Thankfully this morning, I have finally resolved that particular problem).<\/p>\n<p>I swapped the Plus for the older Pro and used my tablet to control it.<\/p>\n<p>All connected OK, but that was when I discovered a new issue.<br \/>\nEvery time I tried to take an image the main camera disconnected itself.<br \/>\nWith frustration building, I almost threw in the towel at that point.<\/p>\n<p>Thinking logically, this sounded like a power issue, so I checked the power port that the main camera was plugged into.<br \/>\nNumpty here had plugged the camera into a port I&#8217;d set up as a dew heater, set at 75%.<\/p>\n<p>Once I got on top of that, it performed flawlessly, so the hunt for Webb was now on yet again.<br \/>\nAs before, the predictions made were close, but not exact, so I did have to hunt around for it.<\/p>\n<p>It took me quite a long time to find Webb, as it seemed to be moving a lot slower against the background stars this evening.<br \/>\nPerhaps the angle we are viewing it has changed so the motion is mainly away from us, rather than across our line of sight?<\/p>\n<p>Webb also seemed to be a bit brighter.<br \/>\nI estimated it at about magnitude +14.5 when compared to background stars.<br \/>\nCould this be because its slower motion is leaving it on a pixel for longer, so it collects more light?<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, below is the resulting image trail and animation (the thin streaks are satellite trails).<br \/>\nI finally finished the evening by looking in on my old friend Comet 67P and then onto Comet C\/2019 L3 (ATLAS).<\/p>\n<p>I wonder what technical problems I&#8217;ll encounter next time?<br \/>\nAnd no doubt, it will be me that&#8217;s caused them&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.star-gazing.co.uk\/Images\/2022\/WST-Trail-20220105.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/www.star-gazing.co.uk\/Images\/2022\/WST-Trail-20220105.png\" width=\"515\" height=\"464\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.star-gazing.co.uk\/Images\/2022\/WST-Trail-20220105.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/www.star-gazing.co.uk\/Images\/2022\/WST-Trail-20220105.gif\" width=\"514\" height=\"361\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.star-gazing.co.uk\/Images\/2022\/Comet-67P-20220105-Web.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/www.star-gazing.co.uk\/Images\/2022\/Comet-67P-20220105-Web.png\" width=\"517\" height=\"356\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>67P Inverted to show structure in tail.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.star-gazing.co.uk\/Images\/2022\/Comet-67P-20220105-Inverted-Web.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/www.star-gazing.co.uk\/Images\/2022\/Comet-67P-20220105-Inverted-Web.png\" width=\"517\" height=\"356\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.star-gazing.co.uk\/Images\/2022\/Comet-C2019L3-20220105-Web.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft \" src=\"https:\/\/www.star-gazing.co.uk\/Images\/2022\/Comet-C2019L3-20220105-Web.png\" width=\"517\" height=\"335\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Last night was a very cold but a really nice clear night.
