If you are like me Stellarium is a fantastic planetarium program for showing people the sky and planning what you might be able to see.<\/p>\n

Many of the maps I use in my guides are drawn using Stellarium.<\/p>\n

But have you tried to find Comet C\/2020 F3 NEOWISE using the software?<\/p>\n

Is it there? Possibly not.<\/p>\n

If you can’t find the comet in the software, here’s my guide on how to add the comet.<\/p>\n

First step is to make sure that you have the most up to date version of Stellarium installed.
\nIt can be downloaded from here:
\nhttps:\/\/stellarium.org<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

Once the software has been installed, open Stellarium.<\/p>\n

On the bottom left of the program, hover your mouse and a menu pops out.<\/p>\n

\"Stellarium-Config-Menu\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Click the Configuration button<\/span><\/strong>. (Or just press F2<\/strong><\/span>).<\/p>\n

This opens the Configuration Window<\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n

Click the Plug-Ins<\/span> <\/strong>Tab.<\/p>\n

Scroll down the left hand side menu.<\/p>\n

Find and click Solar System Editor<\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n

\"Stellarium-Solar-System-Edit\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Make sure Load at Startup<\/strong><\/span> is ticked.<\/p>\n

Click the Configure<\/span>\u00a0<\/strong>Button.<\/p>\n

Click the Solar System<\/strong><\/span> Tab.<\/p>\n

\"Stellaium-Import-Orb-Elem\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Click the Import orbital elements in MPC format…<\/span><\/strong> Button at the bottom of this window.<\/p>\n

Click the Lists<\/strong><\/span> Tab.<\/p>\n

Where it says Select the type<\/strong><\/span>, select Comets<\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n

\nSelect Download a list of objects from the Internet.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Underneath where it says Select a bookmark…<\/strong><\/span> click the drop down menu.<\/p>\n

Select the first option Gideon van Buitenen; comets <\/strong><\/span>as shown above.<\/p>\n

Click the Get orbital elements<\/strong> <\/span>button.<\/p>\n

In the search bar start typing in the comets name C\/2020 F3.
\nIt should appear in the search list in the bottom of the window.<\/p>\n

Select the comet by putting in a tick mark <\/strong><\/span>with the mouse.<\/p>\n

Click Add Objects<\/span><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Close all the menus.<\/p>\n

The comet should now be displayed and will be searchable when running Stellarium as shown below.<\/p>\n

You and Stellarium are now ready for Comet C\/2020 F3 NEOWISE. <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Have fun.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n
