{"id":150,"date":"2017-03-03T10:41:35","date_gmt":"2017-03-03T10:41:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.star-gazing.co.uk\/WebPage\/?p=150"},"modified":"2017-03-12T17:27:15","modified_gmt":"2017-03-12T17:27:15","slug":"2p-just-moon-planets-2nd-march-2017","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.star-gazing.co.uk\/WebPage\/2p-just-moon-planets-2nd-march-2017\/","title":{"rendered":"2P (just) Moon &#038; Planets. 2nd March 2017."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On the evening of the 2nd it started off looking nice and clear.<br \/>\nA nice crescent Moon and Venus, both extremely bright plus\u00a0Mars were shining down.<br \/>\nAs soon as it started to get dark, I was determined to get a decent crack at <strong>Comet 2P (Encke).<\/strong><br \/>\nIt is located just\u00a0below Venus and sets really quickly as it approaches perihelion.<br \/>\nI got the scope first centred onto Venus, then quickly about 10\u00b0 down to the comet. It was just visible as a greeny-blue smudge on my subs, but the brightness of the sky overwhelmed everything. I took 20 15 second subs, but as the sky darkened, the comet sank below the level of my fence and was soon lost. I soon found out that I couldn&#8217;t stack the images in the usual way as there were not enough stars.<br \/>\nSo here&#8217;s the result of removing the bright background and stretching a single sub.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-152 alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/www.star-gazing.co.uk\/WebPage\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/Comet2P-20170302-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"420\" height=\"280\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.star-gazing.co.uk\/WebPage\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/Comet2P-20170302-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.star-gazing.co.uk\/WebPage\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/Comet2P-20170302.jpg 562w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 420px) 100vw, 420px\" \/><br \/>\nThe Newton&#8217;s rings reminds me of the Loony Tunes ending. Just waiting for Porky Pig, to pop up and say &#8220;Th, th, th, th, that&#8217;s all Folks!&#8230; Hopefully more from this comet after perihelion?<\/p>\n<p>So onwards and upwards!<br \/>\n<strong>Venus <\/strong>next. So in goes the UV\u00a0filter. No cloud detail visible, but considering the phase is a only 0.15, I&#8217;m not really surprised. But I&#8217;m not 100% convinced.
